About the Brewery …

Brewing in Bury St Edmunds can be traced back as far as 1086 and The Domesday Book list the ale brewers there as servants of the Abbot of the Great Abbey of St Edmundsbury. This is how the Abbot Ale, the company’s flagship ale, came to be named. Greene King first began brewing there in 1799.

About the Beer ...

The Abbot Ale was first brewed during the 1950s and its popularity has never waned. Today it is still brewed to a unique recipe which makes for a full-flavoured, smooth and mature beer. Pale crystal and amber malts give it colour and malty flavour, while Challenger hops provide the bitterness and overtones of spice.
