Probably the most conventional beer in the pack is Potholer from Cheddar Ales, but this is no ordinary golden ale. Robust and loaded with fresh hop flavours, it’s already an award winner. Joining this Somerset beer are two other beers from the West Country, both from Wiltshire, in fact. The first is Crop Circle from Hop Back Brewery, a beer in which the natural zestiness of hops is enhanced by a little coriander to make summer quaffing that much more interesting. The second comes from Keystone Brewery and is also spiced, but this time very delicately with root ginger for an intriguing buzz.
For our fourth beer we head north to the stunning Lake District to draw on the imagination of the celebrated Coniston Brewery. It’s not the former CAMRA Champion Beer, Bluebird, this time, but Old Man Ale, which is equally fruity but slightly darker. Finally, to prove once again that it’s not just pale beers that can provide summer satisfaction, we’ve called up an easy-drinking, but very tasty dark mild from Rhymney Brewery in South Wales. So there we have it: variety as well as refreshment in one case of terrific beer.
